The Concept Artist collaborates with the director, production designer, DOP and others to realise the creative vision of a film or TV production. They must produce concept illustrations of key sets and environments that help communicate designers’ ideas. The Concept Artists’ work often begins months before a production starts filming, as they must carry out research about the relevant period, characters, props and locations for a particular project. They must develop and visualise various elements such as characters, props and specific visual details – for example, weapons, costumes or vehicles.
